Came across this Malaysian artist - Lok Kerk Hwang - recently and am quite impressed with his works. The work is very luminous and brings interest to the very mundane and everyday objects that he paints. How mundane? He has a fantastic series of paintings called "Symphonies of Rust" - depicting metal trays, gas tins, metal hooks etc.
Some of the scenes that he paints on Batu Pahat are especially endearing. I did have my earliest memories there, living with grandma.
